Independent pattern designers often put out calls to test patterns before their release. These beta patterns are made by home sewists with beginner to advanced skills and provide feedback to the designers on the fit, directions and typos they find, all in an effort to provide the best pattern possible. I did this process with several companies and enjoyed the experience immensely.
Megan Nielsen is a phenomenal designer based in Perth, Australia. I helped test several of her patterns over the years: Ash jeans, Cottesloe swimsuit, Mini Cottesloe swimsuit, Matilda dress (shown right), Mini Virginia leggings, and Mini Briar top.
Kate Blocher is the designer and blogger at See Kate Sew. I pattern tested the following patterns: Rosa top (shown right), Rachel Baby Doll top, Capricorn leggings, Scorpio top and dress, and the Emma top.
Kimberly Payne is the designer at Straight Stitch Designs. I pattern tested the anorak style Magnuson vest.
Foot Hammock was a small business in Orem, Utah that needed several samples made to send to their production factory. I also provided some construction and materials consultation for this project.
